Creative Letterpress / Lead Graffiti - Dec. 11, Member Price
Session 3: Saturday, December 11,
10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
(Tuition credit may not be applied; workshop to be held at Lead Graffiti’s studio in Newark, Delaware)
Inspired by letterpress prints and books in the Delaware Art Museum’s fall exhibition Leonard Baskin: Art from the Gift of Alfred Appel, Jr., the Museum has teamed with Lead Graffiti in Newark, Delaware to offer a workshop that introduces students to the letterpress process through collaborating on a small book combining the students’ favorite poetry. In this workshop, participants will learn about a variety of letterpresses and then work with handset metal and wood type to design one page of a small book using their favorite line of poetry as the subject. Through a creative combination of folding and tearing, each participant will produce one complete accordion-fold book that includes each participants page and a cover. In addition, everyone will receive the materials to produce another two books, which can be completed later.
Come with your favorite poem for inspiration. All necessary materials are provided. Dress comfortably in work clothing for the weather and wear comfortable shoes. A light lunch and snack is included. Further information and directions will be e-mailed to registered students. Space is limited to six people per session. First come, first serve. Please specify preferred session. Recommended for beginner - advanced students.
